Welcome to the 5th and final blog in a 5 part series I’ve been writing, relating to the 5 Day Goal Getting Challenge in my Facebook group. This will focus on why positive thinking and visualisation is an aid to call on, to help you achieve your dreams or ultimate goal.

My journey towards positivity and self-belief started with a few really simple steps, that I repeated and practised daily, which I continue to do, to achieve my ultimate goal. Don’t get me wrong, there will be days where this will be challenging and your self-limiting thoughts and self-doubt will start to creep in; which I write about in my blog Living Limitlessly. And this is where practising visualisation and positivity will help you overcome and move towards your goals. I would like to take this moment to say that, just because you’re feeling negative or are having self-doubt, doesn’t mean you’ve failed or that you’re not doing it correctly. It means that you are human! Just don’t let them stop you or start believing them. Lean on the above.

You have heard of the Law of Attraction, visualisations and affirmations, right? If you haven’t, look them up. I don’t claim to be an expert on them or 100% live by what they state. Like anything, take from it what works for you. Do your own research and come to your own conclusions; however, here are my thoughts on them.

Is the Law of Attraction (LOA) magical or is there something more logical behind their technique?

A little bit of both! I was having a conversation about this and as I have a logical mind, nicely balanced with creativity; I often try and find something that has a bit more of a firmer base for it to work for me.

When you focus on what your goal is, what you want and you make an effort to visualise, as if you already have it and you think positively about the life you want or the health you require or that dream job; you open up your mind to see each and every opportunity there is to achieve it… I know, I know! Not very magical at all right?
But in one sense it completely is…

Do the opposite, think negatively, think “why me!’ think about spiralling debt and the dark hole that you’re in…and you will never ever get out of it. No-one ever got out of a bad situation by thinking negatively. I can pin point times in my life when I have felt so low, lower than ever and it is only when I metaphorically picked myself up, lifted my chin and shook myself, did things start to look up. I changed my mindset and focused my mind on lifting myself out of the darkness. Therefore, that is what happened. What these things do, if practised daily, is re-programme your brain, change and challenge your own learning and help you to see the things that are already right in front of you that will help you. Slipping positivity into your subconsciousness for lasting change and effect!

It seems magical sometimes, when all these years you’ve been walking around in a cloud of darkness and then you start practising positivity and being kinder to yourself, that opportunities just keep appearing and coming to you. As if you are a magnet to these new concepts and that you’ve unlocked a door way to some other dimension…and hey! Whatever works for you. There’s nothing wrong with believing in a little magic if it helps right?
Visualisations| What do they do and why do it?

Pictures are powerful! They sell products, services or foods, they provoke emotions, they give you ideas, the make you imagine, they set the scene and the tone, they bring back memories and they capture time…
This is why they work! I have my own visualisation board that has pictures of my short-term plans, towards my long-term goals, my ultimate dream, it has wordings of inspirations & encouragement. I place this in my home office/dressing room, where I go every morning to get ready for the day ahead. Purposely placed; it reminds me of what I want to achieve and where I’m heading, it keeps me on track and focused and if I lose my way. It reminds me of why I started and where I eventually want to be. It gives me a constant, effective, yet effortless reminder, on a daily basis. Try it!

What Are Affirmations?

I love this word! But what does it mean?

The action or process of affirming something.
Or
Emotional support or encouragement.

However, I think affirmations in this context, are both! Affirmations provide the action and process of cementing a belief, through the aid of provoking a positive emotion towards it. Things that have an emotional attachment to them always make more of a powerful impact. I write about this in my blog Using Your Values to Achieve Your Dreams
For example, repeating ‘She Believed She Could, So She Did’ it cements the belief that, as long as I believe I can, I will be able to achieve what I wish. The words themselves, then provoke strong emotions of determination, courage and confidence. The two together then create positive action. And no matter whether you succeed or fail, it will always be positive action, as you would take great learning from both. If you fail, you will learn how to get up and try again, using a different approach. If you succeed, you learn that your positive mindset and daring to go for it, assists you in achieving your dream!

Therefore, the next time you dare to try something, you challenge your fear, you increase your own confidence in your own abilities, skills and gain experiences. This will elevate the belief in yourself. Because you did it once, you know you can do again!

What effect will putting these things onto practice have?

To then think of yourself already winning, achieving your goal and how your life will change, will the help of a positive affirmation will;

  • LOA – Challenge your previously negative mindset with a positive one. Reprogramming and unlearning what you once thought was not possible.

  • Visualisation – Having an image of your change in life, your ultimate goal, provokes positive happy emotions that will aid you to be more positive in life generally. Wallowing in self-pity will be a thing of the past. Vision boards are stark reminders of where you would like to go or end up. And if you veer off track, seeing these images on your vision board will refocus you and get you back on course.

  • Affirmations – An affirmation is accessible to you whenever and wherever you are. Having a bout of self-doubt, negative thoughts, go back to your affirmation to regroup and empower you to continue. Your affirmation will be strongly linked to your goal and journey, therefore, a trigger to all those positive feelings, thoughts, goals desires that will help you keep going! Find one that suits you! This will then affirm your future actions and you can always come back to this to remind you of how strong you are, that you are in control and that it is down to you to achieve your ultimate dream and that you can!
If I haven’t made this clear in any of my blogs so far, then let me say this; no matter what, it all starts with you! Your desire and passion, being positive about yourself, your determination, challenging your fear, your strong want to achieve, YOU, believing in yourself….

Until next time…

Really glad to hear that it helped you! Exactly what I aim to do with my blog. Being surrounded by negative influences is indeed hard. I have recently had to deal with this also and I think I’ll write a blog on how I dealt with that, as I’m sure many do. Thank you!

I have to agree, LOA is real and it does work. There are many people portraying the wrong story of how to go about it. From personal experience I have recently started noticing how things start to fall in place piece by piece, it took a lot of dedication, positive thinking and persistence. It is not easy but what I have seen is that manifesting something in your life takes allot of thought and visualization, but the hardest part is taking action, it isn’t just going to fall into your lap…

    Love the article.

Thank you Evan! Yes, I agree, there’s lots of stuff around LOA and I definitely do not want to say I’m expert. This article is more to make people think about it and then go do their own research. Which goes for most things in an age of information at our finger tips! Glad you enjoyed!

What a wonderful post. It’s so important in this day and age of social media and immediate confirmation/rejection of one’s ideas and dreams to be positive and never let go of your dreams.

I remember when I was studying for my board exam, I also have picture of my license and words of encouragements on my wall. Whenever I wake up, those were the first things i’d see. And it helps. Positive thinking is powerful.

True. It all starts with us (or me). That’s why the only person who can hinder yourself is yourself. So this is a great reminder for people to be positive and believe in themselves that they can do it.

It’s very important to have positive thinking in everyday life. A person who is positive can strive and achieve but the person with negativity often falls and has a hard time coming back up
