This post is the 3rd in the series of blogs relating to the 5 Day Goal Getting Challenge and is all about the resources you already have that you can call upon in your life, to help you achieve your goal! We are led to believe in this society that it’s all for one and one for all and that we do not need anyone else to help us get to where or what we want to do!
Wrong!
Tell that to the owners of the start-up companies, who needed extra childcare, whilst they worked around the clock to get their idea off the ground.
Tell that to the Etsy store owners, using the platform to sell their own product.
Tell that to the successful business owners, who remember their first ever customer, that gave them the hope that they were going to be ok.
Tell that to the young entrepreneurs with a mentor or a parent, challenging their self-limiting thoughts on a regular basis and who totally 100% believe in them and give them the encouragement to continue when they don’t want to.
Tell that to the creatives that got that one yes out of a thousand no’s’ that spring boarded their career.
Tell that to the wife’s, husbands, partner, best friends, siblings, who held their hands and cracked that bottle of Prosecco to celebrate, as they hit publish on that new website…. I have said it before and I’ll say it again, we are meant to be connected and without that, we only hurt ourselves.
Ok, lets rewind… by me saying this, does not mean that we need anyone’s permission or say so, to carry out our dreams. But by golly, we need that positive influence around us….
Why do we need positive influences around you to reach your goals, you say?
I’ll be happy to explain…
I started this journey around September last year and it took me a good 2 months to voice my ambition to anyone. However, you know when I did, it wasn’t half as scary as I thought it would be. People were not surprised as I thought they would be about my aim, they weren’t overly shocked, they didn’t say anything that was negative or discouraging, quite the opposite. You see, the thing is, when you talk to people, you realise we’re not all too different and most of the time you will hear the sentence… “I thought of doing XYZ…”
Ok, you might say, I am very lucky and I’d be damn arrogant to say that I was not in a privileged position, to be surrounded by the very people that I need or would I…?
Birds of a feather flock together!
It takes one to know one!
Your vibe attracts your tribe!
When you clap, does your circle clap back…?
….and all that jazz!
I have purposely surrounded myself with positive influences and released any toxicity. This may sound harsh, but it is your life, so why keep people that aggravate your energy, your peace around you? Easier said than done when the toxic person is a family member, but you must find a coping mechanism to deal with such negativity. This is a topic for a whole other blog, which I will be writing about in the near future… Make sense so far…?
So, when it comes to goal getting and chasing your dreams, think about the resources you have immediately around you that can support you. And by resources I mean people! Yes, people are resources too!
I came across this years ago when I started my job as a Youth Worker. The main man running things, during a planning session said; “And don’t forget the most important resources when you’re planning things….You! Your staff team!” Funny the things that stick with you eh!
Anyways….those resources could be; your spouse, siblings, parent/s or best friend. You’ll be surprised of the knowledge your nearest and dearest have! And they would be flattered if you asked them to support you in your new adventure. Others that could help; a close work colleague, your neighbour, your mums’ best mate. Just look around you! When I met up with Tina to talk about her experiences (check out the previous blog called She Remembered Who She Was and The Game Changed), after speaking to my friend Steph; it reminded me of all the positive influences and great people I have the privilege and pleasure to know.
Also, look out for networking events that you could go to…they are a great source of local knowledge and resources that you could tap into. Who knows, you may even get wind of available funding.
My hubby has been such an important source of support for me. He proof reads my blogs, occupies our boy when I need to meet my own personal deadline, gives me words of encouragement when I’ve felt like giving up and offered a completely different perspective on situations that I would have never thought of!
But, what if you have no-one to call on for support?
Go find them! Again, the internet is a wonderful place! There is lots of supportive influences on social media, people you can hire and free groups that you can join. Of course, keep your wits about you!
This is one of the reasons I set up my secret Facebook group, as I know it is not always easy for folk to access that positivity in their immediate surroundings. My group could fill that gap! (click here to join). Additionally, look to your local area…is there a group you could join that fits the interest you have? Yes, it is scary meeting new people, but people are nicer than you think, what is the worst that can happen? And don’t forget the most important person in this journey…. YOU! What knowledge, skills, qualities do you already possess that you can utilise? Yes, you do have some skills, before you object! Everyone does! This is where you may call upon some self-reflection to recall them or pop across to my blog Using Your Values To Achieve Your Dreams. It’s a good place to start!
For me, I call on my absolute stubbornness and determination qualities to keep me going. My strong desire and passion to want to have complete freedom and autonomy over my life. My creativity and resourcefulness to be able to think outside the box. My opportunist characteristic to be able to sniff out potential of another option/opportunity. The knowledge and skills I have gained over the years in my career facilitating, teaching and supporting others…
Others are important in your life to aid and support you to achieve your dreams. They keep you accountable; a simple “How’s your venture going?” “Did you go to that event you were telling me about?

Yes of course you can do it alone, but like everything else in life, an experience is much better shared…
So, think about yourself and what you have already, the work/career experiences you have gained thus far that you can draw on…. The people in your life that you can call upon to encourage and support you or the internet resources and local groups you can utilise, when doing the thing that most people won’t dare to do; listening to yourself and chasing your forgotten passion, to achieve your most ultimate dream….
Until next time….

Greetings! Quick question that’s completely off topic.
Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly?
My blog looks weird when browsing from my iphone 4.
I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to resolve this issue.
If you have any suggestions, please share. With thanks!
Hey!I know it’s annoying right! And I always used to forget to look at it from a mobile phone view, thinking all was ok. I didn’t use a plug-in. I use Elementor to create my pages and posts at the bottom left hand side, you can click to view on desktop, mobile or tablet and amend the view for that particular device. I hope this helps!
Yeah bookmaking this wasn’t a high risk conclusion outstanding post!
